Les Pommes (or ‘The Apples’) is Lécole’s endeavor to prepare its students for Grade 1. We aim to create a balanced environment with a blend of learning and playing.
Catering to children between the ages of 1.5-4.5 years, we have created classrooms where all items have been scaled to the children’s size. The class has no focal point, instead everything is arranged such that the focus of the classroom is a sense of comradery.
The vivid colors, natural materials and pictures across the wall are created to stimulate the children’s intellectual and sensory horizons. What’s more is that we do it in an environment where children are taught to think independently and are given the ability to interact with one another confidently.
In a self-regulated environment, we teach students to resolve conflicts by themselves, with minimal interference. Through role-playing activities, teachers exhibit how to respond to arguments which gives children a frame of reference during actual encounters.
These skills go a long way. Children are taught to respect themselves and their fellow students and are engaged in the natural world through exposure to outdoor experiments as well. Students are taught to create connections between things living and non-living and are taught to value life.
We believe that the way to engage students is to inculcate hands-on learning. Children need to learn to engage their mind, body and senses so that they can create meaningful engagement with their surroundings.
Our students are taught boundaries and about consequence, but they are also given enough liberty to learn from their decisions. Our aim at Les Pommes is to prepare out students not just for Grade 1, but to inculcate habits that will prepare them for the world.
